Research: Conduct a simple research (discussion) on the way-finding system in Taylor’s University. Learn about the different types of users and their needs, such as visitors, students, and people with disabilities. Identify common problems that users encounter when using the wayfinding system.
Ideation: Brainstorm ideas for your kiosk design. Think about how you can address the needs and problems of the users. Sketch out your ideas on paper or using digital tools.
Prototyping: Choose one of your design ideas and create a prototype of the kiosk.
Testing: Test your kiosk prototype with potential users. Observe how they interact with the kiosk and ask for feedback. Use the feedback to refine your design.
Next, we had a class group activity. We were to form a group and design a paper prototype for a wayfinding application in Taylor's University. The task flows to include are venue and searching for the locations.
We formed a group of 5:
Chang Wing
Emily
Feilycia
Hui Xuan
We started off by researching wayfinding applications like Waze, Google Maps, Taylor's App (specifically Campus Guide > Floor Plan) and asked ChatGPT about expected features in a wayfinding application. Then, we divided parts and started sketching them.
We ended up with 13 pages for the wayfinding application. Overall, as someone who is taking UI/UX specialisation, it was a fun activity because we applied design thinking process and principles of usability in the paper prototype on how to create a user-friendly application design.
Feedback
Mr Shamsul briefed us on the second exercise, which is to choose a website and replicate it using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. We learned how to capture a full-screen size of a website using Inspect > Run Command > Capture Full Size Screenshot. After that, Mr Martin guided us on the group activity. For our group activity, the feedback he gave was that instead of using such a big size of paper, we could make it smaller in mobile size (we used iPad size).
Project 1
Proposal
Instructions
Objectives
The objective of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive proposal
for the redesign of an existing website.
The proposal should demonstrate your ability to critically evaluate a
website’s design and functionality, and to propose design solutions that
enhance user experience, aesthetics, and performance.
Assignment Descriptions
You are required to select an existing website which you feel has
several design and UX issue and prepare a detailed proposal for its
redesign. The proposal should address the following key aspects: Website
Analysis, Current Design Evaluation, Functionality, Redesign Goals,
Target Audience, Design Proposal and UX Enhancements.
This task taught me a lot about website designing, elements and features in a
website. In this project, I have chosen Zoo Negara Malaysia as website
redesign and I have explore about the Principle of Usability, User Experience, Wireframe of websites and many others knowledge
through this project.
Observation
I noticed that a well-designed website is both appealing and
engaging. The design should reflect the product and brand identity, as each
website has its own distinct style. For example, bacibacimatera.com
has a lively and vibrant design with colourful themes and creative
motifs that complement its artistic offering. In comparison, the
website I am redesigning, zoonegara.my, is more informative and
instructive, with the goal of giving visitors with practical
information about the zoo. It strike a balance between clarity and
visual appeal, with an emphasis on readability, structured layouts,
and nature-themed images.
Findings
I'vediscovered that website developing is not that hard. I am looking forward to the next project which is the
prototype for redesigning the Zoo Negara Malaysia Website.
