Reflections

Experiences

In my first semester pursuing a Bachelor of Design in Creative Media, I have gained a wealth of knowledge about type expressions, type formatting, type constructions, and many other aspects in the Typography module. Each task has provided me with new insights and experiences as I explored Typography through designing and constructing using software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and FontLab 7. Additionally, the tutorial videos and weekly feedback from Mr Vinod have greatly contributed to improving my work. The tutorial videos guided me through the tasks step by step, while Mr Vinod's feedback highlighted problems and helped me achieve better outcomes.

Observations

Through these three tasks, I observed that we should always research and pay attention to typography in our daily lives, as different compositions lead to different outcomes. We can save inspiring typography examples on platforms like Pinterest or in our photo collections for future artwork related to Typography. Additionally, I noticed that we can convey different meanings or stories through the design of typefaces or type formations. For instance, in Task 2, different classmates chose various quotes and produced unique outcomes that reflected the essence of their selected quotes. It was fascinating and inspiring.

Findings

Through this 14-week Typography module, I have discovered many fascinating insights and gained valuable knowledge. I have learned to use software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and FontLab, becoming more familiar with their tools and functions. Additionally, I have gained a wealth of information about Typography by reading books on the subject, covering topics such as its history, development, layouts, composition, typeface design, and more. It was truly interesting, and I would not have encountered this knowledge without taking this module. Thus, the Typography module has greatly enhanced my understanding of design and provided me with a strong foundation. I hope to apply what I have learned in this module to my future tasks and projects.
